Convention at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”: “Alchemy, history of a science”.

Alchemy, history of a science The Associazione Tradizionale Pietas is very pleased to announce that it is working on the realization of a new convention that will take place at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. The conference will be attended by great experts and scholars of a very old science: alchemy, and it will take place at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy during the spring. Detailed information and the exact date of the event will be reported through paper and Internet advertising. All concerned can contact us at the following e-mail address: giuseppegvs@tiscali.it.

The aim of the initiative “Alchemy, history of a science” is to analyse the subject that acted as a matrix for many other sciences, not only chemistry, wich is the most famous one, but also religion, philosophy, botany and medicine, all deriving from alchemy. This topic has also the purpose of allowing both teachers and students to rediscover this ancient science; having its origins in ancient Egypt, alchemy was subsequentely introduced in Europe by the Arabs and was spread during the Renaissance thanks to the followers of “Hernetism”(who will then become alchemists) and the Doctors of the Church (among which Thomas Aquinas, author of the famous text “De Alchimia”).

Literature, from the Renaissance up to today, was influenced by this argument, from Giordano Bruno to Pico della Mirandola, Antonio Allegretti, Paracelso, Agrippa and many other writers.

The famous “hermetic door”, where it is expressed the myserious formula for transorming lead into gold, is still preserved Rome, exactly in the gardens of Vittorio Square. By casting a glance at this Science the conference will awake the critic eye of the scholars who study the many subjects influenced by alchemy, thus allowing them to better understand what they study as well as the origins of those concepts matured until today. The realization of a convention, with the subsequent publication of acts both on paper and on the web, will render this subject accessible to everybody and of public knowledge the treatments of great Italian scholars.
